Equipment Management
Q: Why do I need to assign equipment to categories?
Equipment categories serve multiple purposes in the system. They define which calibration points are required for compliance inspections, making it easy to ensure consistent inspection standards across similar equipment. Categories also help with reporting and filtering, letting you quickly find all equipment of a particular type. If you're using the inspections module, the category's calibration points automatically populate new inspection jobs, saving significant setup time.
Q: How do I track equipment that moves between sites?
Equipment records include full address details that you can update whenever equipment moves. The location field captures the specific placement within a facility, whilst the address fields track the physical site. When you create field service tasks for equipment, the current location and address automatically populate the job details. The service history tab shows all past locations through historical job records, giving you a complete movement trail.
Q: What's the difference between asset tag and serial number?
Serial numbers are manufacturer-assigned identifiers that are typically printed on the equipment. Asset tags are your internal tracking numbers, often physical labels you attach to equipment for easy identification. Both must be unique in the system. Serial numbers help with warranty claims and manufacturer support, whilst asset tags make it easier for your technicians to identify equipment in the field.
